Diana Nursery

Bakkeba who is the headteacher at Diana made a bid for a PC, laptop, printer and scanner. He said he would be using this for printing exams and filing in paperwork. The students investigating this bid were concerned that there was unlikely to be much need to do exams with nursery children and so did not recommend the bid. The price of the whole bid did seem high at £1166, but actually this is not the issue- all computer equipment has to be imported into the country so that prices are always massively inflated. At the same time the value of getting Gambians access to technology was agreed and it was proposed that we did not fund this, but we agreed that if we got a laptop in the future we would prioritise Bakkeba to receive one.

Agreed no funding, but prioritising him to receive a laptop asap.

Tendaba nursery

_DSC0446The nursery had requested food for pupils. There are 51 pupils there and they had requested a higher amount of £500. The students looking at this proposed to half this as the nursery said they had an excess from last year leaving them with enough until February. They therefore proposed to to half to £275. The students as a whole felt this was excessive and voted to raise it.

Agreed £400 for food.

The school want funding for food. They get a small amount of funding for their food from the government, but most is not paid for. They had bid for £530 but again there was a proposal to reduce this to £430 in order to be equitable with other bids.

£430 agreed for food

Agreed £500 for school food

The school has requested £1679 for school food. This seems very high, but this is actually because it is such a large school. Proportionally this is a similar amount to what the other schools are getting, but to make it equitable with the others it was proposed to reduce it to £1500.

Agreed £1500 for school food

The school want £1130 for refurbishment. This includes money for benching. The dutch company who have been supporting in Bumari are also involved here and so there is likelihood of other sources of income.

It was agreed to fund refurbishment at £450
